WDDDDT?: #47 aka ERROR #2: “Room Full of Mirrors”

   Two quotes will just about tell you the state of tariff negotiations between the USA and China. The Wharton School Graduate’s (Class of 1968) Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent equated the “war” with China as a poker match by stating, “They are playing with a pair of twos”. China responds… “All bullies are just paper tigers. Knelling only invites more bullying”. That response reflects the perception that China fells it is no longer weaker than the United States, equals if not better than.

   A bit of history between “the two” aka Mr.Xi (China) and DAFFY DON, our guy. In 2012 Xi came to power with a promise to restore China’s glory aka “Make China Great Again ( MCGA)  with “the great renewal of the Chinese nation”. Our guy basically copies that sentiment during his first reign 2017. Mr. Xi also changed the rules allowing him to stay in power indefinitely. Hmmmm…Xi then censored/controlled China’s propaganda with a rally cry to his constituents to prepare for a “struggle” in the trade war with the theme, “Never Kneel Down!”. The Chinese believe the US and its trade allies are attempting to contain, suppress and encircle China and China must fight back.

  Fighting back despite the huge and effective 145% tariff, China the world’s largest manufacturer has not experienced a decrease in trading abilities. They currently offset shipments to other friendly south east asian nations, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand which in turn disguise the origin of the product before shipping said product to the US. These ports are “rerouting hubs” for the Chinese products. One US expert (Caroline Freund) described this phenomena as,“It’s like a river. You can keep putting rocks in, but the water’s going to keep flowing down”.The Chinese adapted by circumventing DAFFY DON’s tariffs, not truly only “a pair of twos” as Bessent stated. How they do it is simply offer “totally neutral packaging” without any Chinese language or information. With Halloween (costumes) and Christmas (decorations) approaching one manufacturer in China acknowledged that transshipments were taking place organized by US purchasers…. thanks to rerouting “we are basically still shipping as normal”.
