WDDDDT? #47 AKA ERROR #2: Tariffs and why I am fearful…
Dateline: APRIL FOOL’S DAY
Back in October, the 15th to be exact, a Tuesday a few weeks before Election day aka Re-election Day, The Wharton School Graduate (Class of 1968) proudly spouted these thoughts during an interview/confrontation with Bloomberg’s top editor, John Micklethwait. “To me, the most beautiful word in the dictionary is tariff. And it’s my favorite, I'm a believer in tariffs.” He followed that gem with, “If I’m going to be president of this country I’m going to put a 100, 200, 2,000 percent tariff, They’re not going to sell one car into the United States.” To his defense he later said 2,000% was an obvious hyperbole. Imagine that, from the THE FABRICATOR EXTRAORDINAIRE
Economists agree that Americans would be hit by higher prices for grocery staples from abroad, such as fruit, vegetables and coffee. A 12 pack of Maxwell House coffee pods was $7.99 a few weeks ago, yesterday, same store it was $12.99. Now the US is expected to receive retaliatory tariffs.
“…for companies that are going to make their product in the USA. We’re going to protect those companies with strong tariffs, because I’m a believer in tariffs…”
Oh, Ye, gentle mistresses and most distinguished gentlemen, and others… The opinions and observations are solely my own views, and I take full responsibility for any errors of fact, not to mention any predictions that prove to be wildly inaccurate.
