The Rise and Fall of The New York Rangers (Day-2805) (2-3-0)

October 14, 2025: Conor McDavid Comes To Town:

As advertised, Conor McDavid is one of the best if not the best player in the NHL.Tonight, he was just one of the guys on the ice of MSG as both teams played an exceptional game. Note that the Rangers did not have any penalties called against them in the 60 minute contest, nor did they score during that time. As a matter of fact the NYR have not scored in…well, seems like forever. Igor for NY and Skinner for Edmonton stood on their heads making the saves. The Fourth line of Sam Carrick Matt Rempe and Adam Edstrom was a huge, constant threat in front of Edmonton’s net .Braden Schneider  played in the absence of Carson Soucy, who is on injured reserve after suffering an upper body injury on Saturday. The Rangers outshot the Oilers 30-22 , losing 2 zip (1 open netter)…NYR 2-3-0…to be continued…

The Rise and Fall of The New York Rangers (Day-2803)

October 12, 2025: NY Rangers v Alex Oveckin

Hmmmm…Sam Carrick and Noah Laba…Sunday night the NYR looked good, no, better than good, great against the Washington Caps. Unfortunately, it was a 1-nothing losing effort. The Cuylle-Miller- Sheary line was a wonder to behold, getting the majority of ice time/5 on 5 shots on net.Mika continues to impress every shift, and Quick was all but amazing in net. The fourth line causes “positive chaos” as I was awaiting Rempe to plant Tom Wilson at some point but smarter heads prevailed. Rangers are now 2-2-0… to be continued…

The Rise and Fall of The New York Rangers (Day-correction-2803)

October 12, 2025: Last night the Rangers returned the favor of embarrassing the home team’s opening night festivities by beating the (senior division) Pittsburgh Penguins…6-1…It was Igor third game, having now given up only 2 goals in total.

Vinny Trocheck is out week to week with an upper body injury and will be missed.

Carmen Soucy left in the  second period after a horrific crash into the boards with an upper body leaving the Blue Shirts with only 5 d-men.

Fox had a great game as did Mika. The team is 9 for 9 on Penalty kills. Noah Laba is my guy to watch…Next up: Washington Caps…to be continued…

The Rise and Fall of The New York Rangers (Day 3117)

October 9, 2013: (Twelve years ago) “We got embarrassed tonight & we have to learn from that and respond" - Ryan Callahan … Captain of the New York Rangers at that time, just prior to "THE REBUILD"...funny how it sounded oh so similar to what the newest coach (Mike Sullivan) stated after the first home opener...2025...Thank's to Chris Drury this rebuild is working…WTF?

October 9,2025: Igor get his first shut out ( 37 saves) of the year as the NYR beat The Buffalo Sabres 4 zip. We are awaiting updates on Trocheck as he left with an upper body injury in the second period. His absent will be felt throughout the line up and with special teams play.

“It’s only one game…” The Rise and Fall of The New York Rangers

October 9, 2025: This “rebuild” of the NEW YORK RANGERS will be EIGHT (8) years in the making, a total of ….3117 days. In May it will be 32 years since MARK MESSIER hoisted THE CUP in MSG.

Let me take you back in time when a perennial playoff team, a team that sells out an 18,000 seat arena each and every game, a team playing in front of a rabid fan base until… February 8, 2018  you/we find out that management is throwing in the towel, giving up on attempting to make the playoffs that season and would embark on a rebuild. They, the management ask “stars” for their “no-trade list” while telling the fans that our seats are basically worthless for the rest of the season and that scorecards with the new players names, many unknowns, might be needed to identify those you are cheering for all while paying for the highest price tickets in the NHL.The NEW YORK STRANGERS arrived at MSG.

(Feb 8,2018) “As we approach the trade deadline later this month and into the summer, we will be focused on adding young, competitive players that combine speed, skill and character. This may mean we lose some familiar faces, guys we all care about and respect. While this is part of the game, it’s never easy. Our promise to you is that our plans will be guided by our singular commitment: ensuring we are building the foundation for our next Stanley Cup contender.”Signed, Glen Sather and Jeff Gorton.

Thanks guys. So what happened in the intervening years…new GM (Drury), new coach(es), no captain, a new captain, a different captain…simplistically…NO CUP.

2025-2026 Season begins…Game 1: an “L” to the bottom feeding, rebuilding with a new coach Pittsburgh Penguins. In a few words the team (NYR) was lackluster with poor line changes, showed no enthusiasm, skated like shit (is Miller hurt or just lazy), with a new coach (fired from The Penguins)  that pulled Igor with 2 plus minutes left in a 1-zip game,. Mika played like Mika which is good but the NYR lose 3-1…Only 81 games to go…If Igor goes down, the NYR will finish last in the division.

We as NEW YORK RANGER fans are anticipating a promised STANLEY CUP. We are/were contenders but await the moment when LORD STANLEY’S CUP will be hoisted.Let’s Go Rangers… to be continued…

Oh, Ye, gentle mistresses and most distinguished gentlemen, and others… The opinions and observations are solely my own views, and I take full responsibility for any errors of fact, not to mention any predictions that prove to be wildly inaccurate.

 Kisses Can Be Sweet:

It is currently being debated whether or not reciprocal tariffs will have any real impact on the consumer side of the economy but one thing is certain kisses are sweet. One might ask, WTF?  What does tariffs have to do with kisses?…well.

During the last 2 years cocoa prices have risen substantially. Sixty (60) percent of the global supply of cocoa is from Ivory Coast and Ghana, two nations which have been fraught with a drought and diseases of their precious crop. Added to that equation is a new reciprocal tariff.

Over the years I have been told  that one of the best investigative tools is to “follow the money”. July 23, 2025 cocoa prices were trading higher due to the slower pace of exports from the Ivory Coast (Côte d’Ivoire). Shipments from October through the week (total of 1.74 MMT), while up 6.1 % from last year, are down sharply since December. Current harvests which run through September is finding truckloads of beans (6%) being rejected as poor quality partially due to late-arriving rain. Now figure in a new 21% reciprocal tariff imposed(effective April 5, 2025) by the United States. The Ivory Coast was among the countries with the highest rates due to significant trade deficits with the US. This decision  of a higher reciprocal tariff comes at a time when bilateral trade between the United States and Côte d’Ivoire is enjoying significant growth. In fact, in 2024,before the impending tariff, trade between the two countries reached $1.6 billion. U.S. exports to Côte d’Ivoire represented $596.6 million, while Ivorian imports to the U.S. were valued at $1.0 billion, generating a trade surplus of $418.1 million for Côte d’Ivoire. Trump considered this unfair to the US economy.

However, the other largest cocoa producer, the Republic of Ghana, through its Ministry of Trade, Agriculture and Industry, reports that the US tariff will be a measly 10%.Ghana will be among the least affected countries in Sub-Saharan Africa by the US tariffs announced by President Donald Trump. According to Fitch Solutions,Ghana will be ranked 42nd of the 49 Sub-Saharan Africa nations.

The major exports affected by this tariffs are: Cocoa beans, whole or broken, raw or roasted/Cocoa paste, not defatted/ Cocoa paste, wholly or partly defatted/ Cocoa powder, not containing added sugar or other sweetening matter/Cocoa butter, fat and oil/Oilcake and other solid residues, resulting from the extraction of soybean oil and (I threw this ditty in for good measure) Paintings, drawings and pastels, executed entirely by hand, of an age 100 years or less.

Still, we ponder “kisses can be sweet”…Barry Callebaut AG, the global leader in the chocolate and cocoa industry recently reduced its sales volume predictions (-9,5%) for a second time in three months. Why one might ask? Closer to home, Hersey’s expects a 15-20 million due to tariff costs and in In the second quarter Hershey’s is asking the US government for a tariff exemption on cocoa… I think you are getting the idea, but as they say on TV ads…”But wait, there is more”… “Shrinkflation” has been added to the equation. And the cost of the wrappers will be higher.  Soon to be, your Valentine’s Day (Hershey’s) kisses will still be sweet, however they will be smaller and much more expensive.

…to be continued…

2026: Drury’s Dream: The New York Rangers

July 16, 2025: Wow, it is only 82 days until the opening face-off for the new New York Strangers. Once again our illustrious leader, former Captain Chris Drury has reorganized the seemingly perpetual “one year away”  team in hopes of for-filling his promise of winning a Stanley Cup. Let’s recap…

October of 2025, this “rebuild” of the NEW YORK RANGERS will be EIGHT (8) seasons in the making. Today, July 16, 2025  is Day #3033 of the notorious rebuild… In May 2026 it will be 32 years since MARK MESSIER hoisted THE CUP in MSG.

Over these years prior to and then will Drury the coaches who were supposed to take the team to the promised land have come and gone: Tom Renney, John Tortorella, Alain Vigneault, David Quinn, Gerard Gallant, Peter Laviolette and now according to Drury “the guy we wanted all along, Mike Sullivan”.

We (me) take it all back to “the letter of February 8, 2018” when the “organization” (Sather/Gorton) made our season tickets virtually worthless for the rest of that season and ultimately for a few years to come.

Then, as the rebuild was in full swing we witnessed the May 3, 2021 game where the Capitols’ Tom Wilson cross checked Pavel Buchnevich in the back of the head. Panarin sans helmet attempts to intervene. Wilson dumps Panarin to the ice like a rag doll. Wilson was given a double minor for roughing and a 10 minute misconduct while mocking the Rangers from the penalty box. Panarin was out for the rest of the season. Wilson gets no suspension just a $5000.00 fine. The Rangers lose 6-3 and are officially out of playoff contention. When the NHL failed to suspend the Capitals’ forward the RANGERS issued an unprecedented statement criticizing the league and fired team President John Davidson and General Manager Jeff Gorton. Which led us to the evening of May 5, 2021 when the Capitols and The Rangers next played. A brawl ensued at the opening face-off, it was noted by all that The Rangers needed a Nick Fotio, a fighter. Changes had to and were made. May 5, 2021, Chris Drury is elevated to President and General Manager of the NY Rangers…

So now, here we are again as we wait and see if the wheeling and dealing Drury has finally put together his dream team to go with his “coach we always wanted”.

Oh, Ye, gentle mistresses and most distinguished gentlemen, and others… The opinions and observations are solely my own views, and I take full responsibility for any errors of fact, not to mention any predictions that prove to be wildly inaccurate.
